Thursday's snow forced the postponement of several regional scholars bowl tournaments.

But a few area teams know they still will be competing another week.

Ness City and Quinter grabbed the top two spots at a Class 1A regional meet at Quinter to advance to the 1A state championships Feb. 13 at Rosalia-Flinthillls.

Only the top two teams from the eight 1A regionals move on to state.

Quinter snuck into state for the first time since 2007 by beating out Victoria in a tie-breaker.

While Ness City went 5-0 in the finals, Quinter and Victoria tied for second with 3-2 marks. But since Quinter beat Victoria 30-20 in their head-to-head match, Quinter earned the remaining state berth.

Ness City and Quinter won't know their opponents for state until after Monday because two 1A regionals were postponed because of bad weather.

The 1A Tribune regional was rescheduled for today, and the 1A Wilson site was postponed until Monday.

* In 2A regional action at Leoti, Oberlin's Decatur Community High School advanced to the 2A finale Feb. 13 at Goessel with its third-place finish behind Kinsley and Johnson-Stanton County.

The top three teams from the four 2A regionals advance to state.

Like Ness City and Quinter in 1A, Decatur Community also will have to wait for the complete 2A state field because the regional at Brookville/Ell-Saline was postponed until Monday.

* The 4A regional involving area schools at Kingman also was postponed until Monday.

It's a senior all male team whose NCHS core curriculum teachers all are female.

It's scholar's bowl!! There are girls and boys who are smart - and both can be part of the teams. What difference would it make anyway - you obviously didn't get your education at Ness City or Quinter!!
