Police investigate armed robbery at liquor store

An armed robbery occurred Thursday night outside a liquor store in Hays at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Hays police report an employee of Steinert Liquor, 2522 Vine, had just locked the store and was walking to his vehicle when a black male with a handkerchief covering his face approached him with a gun.

The armed man demanded the bank bag the employee was carrying, retreating on foot after being given the unspecified amount of money.

The employee was not injured during the robbery.

An extensive search of the area by officers from the Hays Police Department, Ellis County Sheriff's department and the Kansas Highway Patrol did not produce any suspects.

The robber is described as a black male, 25 to 30 years old, approximately 5 foot, 9 inches tall and weighing between 130 and 150 pounds.

The investigation is ongoing, and police encourage anyone with information about the crime to contact the Hays Police investigations division at (785) 625-1011.
