Theater production hatches Tuesday in Hays
Special to The Hays Daily News
The Hays Arts Council will present the ArtsPower National Touring Theatre production of "Are You My Mother?" at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center.
The original musical, based on P.D. Eastman's enduring children's classic, begins when Baby Bird hatches from her egg only to find an empty nest. Unaware her mother has left to find food, Baby Bird decides to leave the nest to look for her. Along the way, she meets an array of colorful characters who help and advise her. Throughout a journey that overflows with courage, determination and a bit of calculated silliness, persistent Baby Bird is determined to find her mother no matter what.
Since it was founded in 1985, ArtsPower has grown into one of America's largest and most active producers of professional theater for youth and family audiences. Its 26 national touring productions have been seen by more than 9 million people in 46 states. Performance sites have included the Kennedy Center in Washington and Lincoln Center in New York.
Tickets are available at Hays Arts Center, 112 E. 11th, Fort Hays State University Memorial Union Student Service Center or Beach/Schmidt box office before the performance. All seating is general admission. Prices are $3 for children 13 and younger and $6 for children 14 and older.
Kindergarten and first-grade students from Hays, Ellis, Victoria, Plainville and Russell will be guests at a matinee performance earlier in the day.
The production is sponsored by the Bob and Pat Schmidt Foundation.
