EMS wins blood drive battle

Ellis County Emergency Medical Services was the winner of the 2011 Battle of the Badges blood drive event hosted by American Red Cross Blood Services -- Central Plains Region.

A total of 251 units of whole blood were collected for the event from Dec. 13 to Dec. 30.

EMS won the contest, receiving 114 votes. Since the event got its start in 2003, EMS has won a total of five events.

Also participating were the Ellis County Sheriff's office, Hays Police Department, Hays Fire Department and Ellis County Rural Fire.
