Downtown readies for fourth Blues, BBQ and Bargains

The fourth annual Blues, BBQ and Bargains event will add a little spice to Hays this weekend.
From 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, dollars can be exchanged for BBQ Bucks allowing folks to sample the participating Kansas City Barbecue Society contestants' food. As of Wednesday, 36 teams had registered to participate in the official KCBS contest.
New this year is KidsQ, a barbecue contest starting at 5:30 p.m. for aspiring youth outdoor chefs. A cruise-in gets under way at 7 p.m.
Live performances include the Rockin' Jake Band, 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the Brandon Miller band, 7 to 11 p.m. at Municipal Park.
Rounding out the evening's activities at the park will be a free moon bounce from 5 to 9 p.m. and a beer garden from 5 to 11 p.m.
A free admission after-hours party at Singers, 114 E. 12th, begins at 11 p.m.
On Saturday, the barbecue contest will continue, with KCBS award winners announced at 3:30 p.m., and admission at Hays Aquatic Park will be discounted from noon to 7 p.m.
