Former Hays resident Kris Munsch has received smashing success with the sale of his book, "The Birdhouse Project: Healing through the Collaboration of the Heart, Mind and Hands."

Munsch, who now lives in Bonner Springs, wrote the book, which focuses on rebuilding your life after some type of loss or tragedy, after the death of his 16-year-old son, Blake, in a car accident four years ago.

He and a fellow teacher at Bonner Springs High School, Jeff Fouquet -- who helped Munsch write the book -- will be in Hays on Saturday for a book signing.

The signing will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hastings Books, Music and Videos, 3300 Vine.

Fouquet, an English teacher who is nearing completing of a birdhouse sequel, focusing on teenagers going through personal tragedies, will give a poetry reading at 3:30 p.m. at the Hays Public Library, 1205 Main.

The reading is titled, "Poems from the Jagged Edge: Images from Eastern Kansas."

Munsch has been busy fielding calls for giving presentations since the book went on sale in December. About 500 of the first 2,000 books published already have been sold.

Munsch, a native of Ness City, and Fouquet will give their first presentation at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Ness County Bank Building, then will give a similar talk at 9 a.m. Monday at Ness City High School.

More information about the project or ways to contact Munsch can be found on the Internet at www.thebirdhouseproject.com.

It also can be bought locally at several stores, including The Messenger, 2512 Vine, and The Rock Good Bookstore, 1012 Main.
