Willie Brown to give lecture at Dole Institute

TOPEKA (AP) - Former California State Assembly Speaker and San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown is coming to Kansas to share his views on politics.

Brown will speak Feb. 23 at the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. His lecture, "Mr. Speaker, Mr. Mayor," is part of the institute's program in observance of Black History Month.

He will share his views of politics and government based on his 40 years of public service

Brown was elected to the California Assembly in 1964 and became speaker in 1980. He was elected mayor of San Francisco in 1996 and served until 2004.

He grew up in Mineola, Texas, and graduated from San Francisco State University and later Hasting Law School.
