Hays residents and surrounding locals can hitch a ride with a new cab service.

Convenience Cab, which opened last week, serves the city and a 15-mile range outside the immediate area. Passengers can ride within the city for $5 each, and they can travel in the extended area for the regular fee and $1 per mile.

The company's fleet consists of three mini vans seating up to six people each, said Marlin Daubert, co-owner. All the drivers have passed a background check.

"All it takes is a simple call," he said. "We've got really friendly drivers and really clean and comfortable vans."

Skyler Yost, co-founder, said the company's fast response distinguishes it from Access Transportation and Safe Ride.

"We'll be able to find a market just based on being able to be on demand," Yost said. "Instead of having to wait half an hour for a ride, we'll be able to show up within five or 10 minutes at your front door."

Convenience Cab can be reached at (785) 301-2221. Its hours are 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
