Chiropractors Paul Solomon and Mark Schupman are no strangers to adjustments.
Solomon and Schupman have been operating in Hays for seven years and 12 years, respectively, and Monday, they made yet another adjustment -- opening the Hays Chiropractic Center together.
Prior to this, the two operated independently in different offices, but when Solomon married Schupman's wife's cousin in August 2010, it created an opportunity for a merger.
The Hays Chiropractic Center, located at 1301 Pine, was a blessing for Solomon and Schupman, who each had problems with their original locations.
Solomon's office on 206 W. Eighth was the ground floor of his home, and after getting married, Solomon and his wife, Megan, wanted to find a new place to live.
Schupman said he was wanting to stop renting and get more visibility for his business, which was tucked away in a complex of offices at 1011 W. 27th.
"I decided that it would be better to buy than rent," Schupman said. "I was ready for something new. We talked and were looking for places over the past year or so, and we found this here. It was a nice building and a good location."
They purchased the office Aug. 1.
They said the office looked like something out of the 1970s with baby blue carpet and wallpaper on much of the walls. So during the past seven weeks, they have renovated it so it is fit for a chiropractic clinic.
Even the renovations were a family event, as the two chiropractors, their wives and extended family helped them to put it together.
"We took it from the 1970s to the 21st century," Schupman said.
Besides increased visibility, the new office also has other benefits, such as having more space and allowing them to cooperate together.
"I think it is very helpful to have another doctor to discuss something with if there is something that is out of the ordinary," Solomon said.
Also, if need be, they can fill in for one another.
"It is nice, because if one person is busy, the other person can see a patient," said Schupman's wife, Valerie. "We don't have to turn patients away."
For Solomon, adding chiropractors to his family through marriage has become a steady trend.
His stepfather and step-grandfather both were chiropractors.
"I'm the third generation through marriage," Solomon said.
So far, they said their clients have been receptive to the location change.
"They love it," Solomon said. "They think it looks real nice. 'Fancy' is the word a lot of them used."
