City to discuss costs of proposed pavilion

City of Hays staff members, following up on a request made by city commissioners in September, will report on potential operating costs of a proposed downtown pavilion project during Thursday night's commission work session at 6:30 p.m. at city hall.

The pavilion proposed by the Downtown Hays Development Corp. and presented to city commissioners at the commission's Sept. 20 work session is estimated to cost $576,534, which includes facility construction and site improvements. City staff estimates recurring costs to the city of $6,000 annually.

DHDC requested the city contribute $276,534 toward the pavilion project, which includes a $100,000 cash contribution and $176,534 in site improvement costs.

The multi-use pavilion is proposed to be located at 10th and Main streets near Union Park, and serve as a location for community functions such as family reunions, weddings, an arts venue and a farmers market.

Other agenda items include:

* An update on Larks Park turf.

* Golden Belt 8th Addition replat.

* A pre-annexation agreement for sanitary sewer service at 2807 U.S. Highway 183 Alternate property.

* Vacating an alley in Reservation Addition.
