Hays city commissioners will consider approving a bid for purchase of a new street sweeper during their regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at city hall.
Three bids were received for replacement of the city's street sweeper, with $219,300 budgeted for the purchase.
According to a meeting memo, staff recommended accepting the second lowest bid of $170,885 by Key Equipment for a machine considered "the superior machine which will provide future savings far in excess of the $7,000 difference in initial purchase price."
The low bid of $163,734 by Red Municipal and Industrial Equipment was for a machine which "contains too many critical exceptions and will not be as durable, given the constant use of our machine," the memo said.
Other agenda items include:
* An update on ITC transmission line and substation projects presented by Kim Goodnight, ITC representative.
* Commissioners' possible consideration of approving the Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development's funding request for economic development funds allocated in the 2012 budget.
* An ordinance for possible consideration for the donation of lost or abandoned property collected by Hays Police Department to nonprofit organizations in lieu of the sale of items at public auction.
