Counterfeit bills floated at Hays businesses

While it remains unclear if the incidents are connected, police are encouraging local merchants to be vigilant in checking the cash they receive, particularly larger bills, said Assistant Police Chief Phil Hartsfield.
“They have means to check it... that help you know that it’s an actual U.S. mint bill,” Hartsfield said. “That will help keep the retailers (from) becoming victim. They ultimately are out that money.”
