A Taxed Enough Already party will take place at noon July 4 outside the Ellis County Courthouse.

County commissioners approved the use of the Courthouse grounds Monday after hearing a request from Kathleen Fischer, who represents a group of concerned citizens.

"We're simply going to try to hold Washington accountable the way we have to hold ourselves," Fischer said.

TEA parties have been organized throughout the United States for people to express their thoughts on the nation's spending habits.

Fischer said the local rally will last a half-hour to an hour and feature singing and a guest speaker.

"We'd like to send a very dignified message to the government," she said.

More than 1,200 such TEA parties are scheduled to take place across the country July 4. One in Athol is scheduled for 3 p.m., but a location is not yet known. One in Ness City is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the south side of the Ness County Courthouse.

In other business from Monday's Ellis County Commission meeting:

* Commissioner Vernon Berens was absent.

* Commissioners approved a contractor's estimate and a draw request on a transportation revolving fund for $181,614.60 for work completed on the Eighth Street bridge.

* Commissioners approved a three-year service agreement and hardware upgrade through Nex-Tech for $5,185.

* Ellis County Emergency Management Coordinator Bill Ring said he is finalizing a plan to be used by emergency personnel and other agencies during Wild West Fest. Other large events including the Ellis County Fair already have a plan in place in case of an emergency or a disaster.

* Commissioners approved two cereal malt beverage licenses for Midwest Deutsche Oktoberfest from July 11 to 19 and from Sept. 18 to 20 at the Ellis County Fairgrounds.

* Appraiser Dean Denning told commissioners his 2008 appraisals were in compliance with the sales ratio during the year, according to a study required by state statute.

It's just too bad that a few americans are blinded and brain washed by the media today. Look over the history of this once great nation and the people who stood up for a cause. If we do nothing now it may be too late to save our children's future. I for one am tired of hearing the race thing, it's just a little played out. It's been six months now and he promised that unemployment would not go above 8%, it is now 9.5%. Over 400,000 jobs lost in June alone. This can no longer be blamed on Bush, it has been Obama's economy now for six months. If he was doing something positive the unemployment rate would have stopped going up. I would also like to know what exactly the stimulus did? I never saw any growth in the economy. In conclusion too all of you Obama supporters it must be great to be some of the most ignorant people on the face of the earth.

O and way to WASTE money (buying the tea they'll destroy) when you all should be saving. And its funny how after a great, democratic, black man was elected as president, everyone (excuse me) REPUBLICANS want to complain. But nothing to say while we were under the thumb of your idiotic REBULICAN white man. It was all okay then. Obama might be spending, but he's putting it towards things we need. VIVA LA REFORM!!!! I am pleased with our current president and he is doing a damn fine job.

not HA funny, but HA HA funny. : 6/24/2009
This really is a joke!! If people want to 'make a stand', they should do it in a way that DOESN'T make them look ridiculous. But I'll thank them for the laughs!

Most people attending a teabag events do not make enough to be in the higher tax brackets. It is a protest against progress and race. It is disappointing the ellis county commissioners gave them permission to convene at the courthouse. The municipal sewage treatment facility is much more appropriate. By the way the Clinton economy added 22 million new jobs and the federal government had a surplus. The Bush tax cuts have led us to the current economic crisis

re:tea baggers: 6/24/2009
By cutting taxes, you spur economic activity, create new jobs, and actually increase the revenue collected by the government. Look at revenues in the 80s, when Reagan cut taxes, and in the early 60s, when Kennedy cut taxes. The economy went on the fast track to recovery in both cases. Contrast that to the early 90s, when Bush 41 and then Clinton each raised taxes, and the 70s, when a succession of tax increases occurred. The economy tanked.

TEA party scheduled for Fourth of July: 6/23/2009
Tea parties are a start. AS long as it is peaceful. Violence will only criminalize and discredit your action. I do not think people in general mind paying taxes and as a whole understand it is necessary to civilization. But I believe the whole point in these TEA parties is to make heard that we are tired of fat cats. There is a lot of Gov. that is making to much money and wasting it. Case in point our Gov. is dumping lots of money in the roads and then taking money from our school systems. Cut back on education and dump it into the roads. I am all for good roads but not at the expense of our children. I say good for all you AMERICANS who peacefully get heard.

OH NO!!! Not the teabaggers! I would like someone to explain to me how to create revenue for necessary services without raising taxes?

If people aren't willing to take a stand now quietly and peacefully, what makes you think anyone would stand up if they were being shot and gassed with teargas? Unfortunately, most Americans don't know enough about their country's history or national politics to be able to take the kind of stand the folks in Iran are. Thankfully, our concerns are minor compared to what the Iranian citizens are faced with.

I wished, the people of the United States of America, would stand up like the people in Iran, have been doing, then Washington would take notice, until then, tea parties are just a joke..............I think?
