A 28-year-old Hays man was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence and obstruction of official duty.
Hays police attempted to stop Earl Ruder at approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday for a routine traffic stop in the 1500 block of Hall. Ruder continued driving to the 3500 block of Hall. The stop escalated to a DUI investigation, and Ruder "became combative," according to Hays Police Lt. Ron Rounkles.
Officers struggled to get Ruder in handcuffs, and he reportedly kicked an officer. No injuries were reported.
