The unattended death of a 54-year-old Hays woman was discovered Tuesday by police during a routine welfare check.

While responding to Woodhaven Apartments, police discovered the body at about 4:30 p.m. inside the woman's room.

Her name could not be released, pending notification of family.

Lt. Ron Rounkles said the death is believed to be due to natural causes and likely occurred sometime within the last couple days.

Apartment staff told officers it had been several days since they remembered seeing the woman, he said.
