Training facility set for dedication
By The Hays Daily News
The public finally will get a chance to see the inside of the towering building near Fort Hays State University's Lewis Field Stadium that has been under construction the past year.
The official dedication of Schmidt-Bickle Indoor Training Facility is set for 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the building, situated between the flood levee adjacent to Big Creek and the limestone wall surrounding the stadium.
Major benefactors Bob and Pat Schmidt and Don and Chris Bickle will be in attendance, along with FHSU President Edward Hammond and Athletic Director Curtis Hammeke. They will be joined by Tiger coaches and athletes.
Following the dedication ceremony, people will be given tours of the building, which includes a state-of-the-art 5,000-square foot weight room.
The main practice area of the 50,400 square-foot building includes a multi-sport turf field, a synthetic track and jump pits.
People also will be able to sneak a peek at the new turf in Lewis Field Stadium, installed this summer and completed earlier this month. The new look features black end zones with bright gold lettering and a huge Victor E. Tiger at midfield.
Construction of the facility began in June 2012
