Dog park efforts unleashed
By The Hays Daily News
With land recently set aside by the city of Hays for a dog park, fundraising efforts are stepping up for Friends of the Hays Dog Park.
A 6-acre tract of land east of the maintenance building at Bickle/Schmidt Sports Complex was set aside by commissioners in June. Envisioned as a park surrounded by a 6-foot chain link fence, with doggie drinking fountains, posted rules and cleanup stations, the park area currently is maintained by the city of Hays Parks Department.
According to Kim Perez, president of Friends of the Hays Dog Park, the organization plans to incorporate several fundraising strategies as it moves forward, including community events such as garage sales, dog events and fundraisers at area businesses); memorials such as bricks, benches, etc. at the park; grants; and donations.
Tax-deductible donations are being accepted for the Hays Dog Park and can be sent to City of Hays, attn: City Clerk's Office, P.O. Box 490, Hays, KS 67601. Contributors need to specify "city of Hays dog park donation" on the check memo line.
