Downs standoff case ends with plea agreement

OSBORNE -- The three-day trial of a Downs man in connection with a standoff with police more than a year ago will not move ahead.

Instead, Matthew Thille, 22, is scheduled to be sentenced on a single count of attempted murder, part of a plea agreement reached earlier this month, according to published reports. His trial was scheduled to start Monday in Osborne County District Court.

Instead, Matthew Thille, 22, is scheduled to be sentenced on a single count of attempted murder, part of a plea agreement reached earlier this month, according to published reports. His trial was scheduled to start Monday in Osborne County District Court.

Thille agreed to plead no contest to a single count of attempted murder, a charge that had been dismissed at a preliminary hearing. Five other charges, including four counts of attempted murder, were dismissed. Sentencing is set for Aug. 15 in Osborne County District Court.
