Downs standoff case ends with plea agreement
By The Hays Daily News
OSBORNE -- The three-day trial of a Downs man in connection with a standoff with police more than a year ago will not move ahead.
Instead, Matthew Thille, 22, is scheduled to be sentenced on a single count of attempted murder, part of a plea agreement reached earlier this month, according to published reports. His trial was scheduled to start Monday in Osborne County District Court.
Thille agreed to plead no contest to a single count of attempted murder, a charge that had been dismissed at a preliminary hearing. Five other charges, including four counts of attempted murder, were dismissed. Sentencing is set for Aug. 15 in Osborne County District Court.
