Saturday raid leads to three arrests
By The Hays Daily News
Hays police officers executed a "no-knock" search warrant Saturday at a residence in the 100 block of East 15th, netting three drug-related arrests, Lt. Ron Rounkles said this morning.
Assisting regular street patrols, Rounkles said members of the Special Situation Response Team, which operates in full safety gear, helmet and shield and responds only to raid-like situations, performed the search at around 6 a.m.
Arrested were Calvin Boyer, 26; Benjamin Mettlen, 21; and Christy Leiker, 22. All were listed as residents of the home.
Boyer and Leiker were arrested for sale of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, aggravated endangerment of a child and no drug tax stamp.
The address is in close proximity to Kennedy Middle School.
Mettlen was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, battery of a law enforcement officer and obstruction of justice.
Rounkles said Mettlen was found lying on a bed in the home and resisted arrest by kicking at officers during attempts to place handcuffs on him. Mettlen was then subdued through use of a Taser, Rounkles said.
Boyer's and Leiker's child endangerment charges stem from a 4-month-old infant being present in the home.
