A federal court in Wichita has sentenced an Oberlin man to 150 months in prison for drug trafficking.
A news release from U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch today reported Darrel Lee Ferguson, 53, was sentenced for the trafficking of methamphetamine.
According to the release, court documents show investigators arranged for a confidential informant to purchase methamphetamine from Ferguson in October.
On Nov. 1, a team of law enforcement officers with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Oberlin Police Department and Decatur and Thomas County Sheriff's offices served a search warrant at Ferguson's home in Oberlin.
Officers then arrested Ferguson and seized methamphetamine from a fanny pack around his neck. More methamphetamine, four firearms and two homemade bombs also were recovered from his home, according to the release.
Ferguson pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in March. According to the release, he admitted in his plea to possessing approximately 120 grams of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest.
Co-defendant Kevin Lane Smith, 35, Oberlin, also was arrested outside the house in November. He has pled guilty and is scheduled for sentencing June 10.
The Kansas State Fire Marshal and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted in the case.
