ELLIS -- During its meeting Monday, the Ellis USD 388 Board of Education approved the non-renewal of three teachers and a reduction in force of one tenured teacher.

Three of the positions are at the elementary level and one was a physical education, health and at-risk teacher at the high school, according to Superintendent Steven Taylor.

"We plan to realign staff and shift personnel around so we are not losing three elementary positions," Taylor said.

The district employs 37 teachers this year.

"We certainly hope that this budget issue is not as bleak as (the state's) projecting and we have an opportunity to bring these people back," Taylor said.

To further discuss the budget, the district will host a community forum at 7 p.m. March 23 at the Ellis High School auditorium.
