ELLIS -- Lyle E. Johnston, 407 Dorrance, filed as an incumbent City Council member Wednesday. Johnston filled a vacancy on the council in 2010 and is seeking a second term.

The deadline for filing to run is noon Jan. 24.

Voter registration continues until the close of business March 13 for Ellis residents who want to vote in the municipal election April 3. Voter registration forms are available at 815 Jefferson, Ellis, and at the office of the Ellis County Clerk in Hays.

Voter photo identification is required for the first time this year. Voters can obtain information on what constitutes adequate photo identification from the city of Ellis or the Ellis County Clerk.
