SHARON SPRINGS -- An accident in Wallace County on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of two Weskan residents.

According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, 56-year-old Eugene W. Hackerott and passenger Lavern C. Kuder, 78, were heading south at around 6 p.m. on Kansas Highway 27 about 6 miles north of Sharon Springs when the 1999 Ford Explorer they were traveling in entered the west ditch.

The KHP report said Hackerott, attempting to correct the vehicle's movements, lost control. The vehicle came back across the road and entered the east ditch before rolling twice and flipping end-over-end.

Both Hackerott and Kuder were ejected during the incident. Neither were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.

They were pronounced dead at the scene at 7 p.m. and were taken to Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.
