Hays Medical Center Foundation is sponsoring free drive-thru flu shots from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 14. The flu vaccine will be given to adults and children ages 6 months and older. Children 2 years and older can be given the flu mist.

People 65 years and older might receive a high dose formulation of the vaccine. The dose contains four times the amount of influenza antigens and induces a high immune response to individuals in this population who are most susceptible to complications of flu.

People wishing to receive a flu shot should enter the north entrance of HaysMed on Canterbury Drive. People are asked to wear a short-sleeved shirt. No injections will be given to anyone allergic to eggs and thimerosal.

Along with the shots, employees will be sponsoring an optional food drive. People are asked to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Community Assistance Center.
