The Hays Daily News

Two of the local basketball "players" will be Mike Hester and Bill DeWitt.

Say what?

The principals of the two local high schools are scheduled to be in uniform tonight for the Hays team that will take on the Harlem Globetravelers, a spin-off group of the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters.

Hester from Hays High School and DeWitt from Thomas More Prep-Marian High School will be part of the show that will include four 10-minute quarters of comedy and "razzle dazzle" ball, slam dunks and 3-point shooting.

Other community members and teachers and faculty from both high schools, as well as former local high school players, also will help make up the Hays team.

Highlighting the Globetravers' roster is Lamont "Showboat" Robinson, who toured with the Globetrotters in the 1980s.

Show time is 7 p.m. at TMP's Al Billinger Fieldhouse, but doors will open at 6 p.m., with memorabilia being sold throughout the night.

Tickets for the event are $10 per person, and proceeds will go to the Catholic Youth Organizations of the three local Catholic parishes -- Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Nicholas of Myra and St. Joseph.

The Globetravelers were to perform in Hoisington Saturday night and are scheduled at Smith Center Monday.
