Meetings focus on housing

A city of Hays housing study group will hear from residents with concerns about housing issues during stakeholder meetings Tuesday and Wednesday at Hays Welcome Center.
"Housing is always an issue in Hays, be it high cost of housing or the lack of certain type of housing," City Manager Toby Dougherty said at a Tuesday morning press briefing.
The housing study group was approved by city commissioners several months ago following recommendations initiated by the Hays comprehensive plan and a housing needs assessment conducted by the Hays Board of Realtors and Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development. The group has been meeting since January.
Comprised of city staff, a city commissioner, Hays Area Planning Commissioner and the director of ECC, the housing study group has been "digging a little deeper into the housing issue."
"We expect each stakeholder group to have a different perspective, a different viewpoint, different needs," Dougherty said. "Quite frankly, different expectations."
