Health officials: flu lessening in Kansas

Eds: APNewsNow.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- Flu activity is dropping across Kansas.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported Friday in its weekly H1N1 report that fewer Kansas schools are seeing high absenteeism rates.

At the elementary level, the percentage of schools reporting absenteeism rates of 10 percent or more fell to 15 percent from 33 percent.

The agency also said that the number of people going to the doctor to be treated for flu symptoms is down.

So far, 17 people from Kansas have died from swine flu.
