Changes in mail service still on track
The shift of virtually all mail-sorting responsibilities from Hays to the Wichita Post Office is still on track to take place in January.
That's a move that will slow the delivery of mail even more.
Already, overnight service is only available for letters mailed to either the 675 Zip code area, that area served by Hutchinson, or letters originating and heading to an area served by the 676-Zip code.
After January, said retiring Hays Postmaster Tom Lippert, all mail will take two to three days to deliver -- even mail dropped off in Hays bound for another Hays address.
That's because virtually everything will be going to Wichita for sorting and the U.S. Postal Service will be adjusting its delivery standards.
