A Ransom native will be returning home this weekend for the debut performance from her newly formed theater company.

Angela Horchem, a 1999 Ransom High School graduate, along with theater partner, Matt Walley, will present "The Trial of D.D. Young," an adaptation of O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi" during a public performance at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ness County Bank Building, Ness City.

It's the first performance from Illegitimate Theatre, Horchem's Tucson-based theater company that she hopes will take off in the next year.

"I've worked for and with a lot of different companies, but this is the first time to actually step out," Horchem said.

The duo put together their performance with feedback from Walley's family, but will actually act it out live for the first time in front of Horchem's family.

"It's even scarier," Horchem said of performing in front of her friends and family.

"We just wanted to bring something home so that our families could see what we do," she said.

Horchem said her performance will stay fairly true to the original "Gift of the Magi" Christmas story, after beginning to work on the piece in September.

"It spoke to both of us, especially how it compares with the economic times right now, it really seemed like a good story to tell," she said.

Admission to Sunday's show is free.
