NICODEMUS -- If you are looking to do something special this summer, look no further.
* On June 15, Nicodemus will come alive during the Jazz, Blues and a Little Country Too Festival. Bring your lawn chairs, take in the live sounds of Kentucky jazz musician Tee Dee Young and his band Scandalous and fill up on samplings from Ernestine's BBQ Cook-off.
* Join more than 500 Nicodemus descendants at the 135th annual Homecoming Emancipation Celebration the weekend of July 25 to 28. This year's theme is "150 years of Emancipation -- 135 Years of Emancipation Celebration." Listen to famous Lincoln re-enactor Tom Strahan read the Emancipation Proclamation and watch descendants re-enact the arrival of their ancestors in Nicodemus. Be a spectator of vintage baseball games, a town parade and a gospel extravaganza featuring Denver group Heaven Bound. Feast at the pancake breakfast, ice cream social and watermelon feed. Watch the clear, dark Kansas skies light up with fireworks, and dance the night away to the sounds of jazz. For more information, visit www.nicodemuskansas.org.
