Two new community meetings have been scheduled to talk about reducing hours at area post offices.

The meetings have been set for Nov. 13 in Agra and Gaylord. The Agra meeting is set for noon in the community hall, while the Gaylord meeting is set for 3 p.m. in the Gaylord Post Office.

If too many people show up for the relatively small lobby, the meeting will be moved outside onto the sidewalk.

In many cases, the U.S. Postal Service has scheduled community meetings in post offices, even though there's little room in many of them.

A meeting set for noon Nov. 7 in Cedar, for example, also is expected to be conducted in the post office lobby.

It's a small facility, but it's also a small community with fewer than 15 people living there.

Under the proposal offered by USPS, the Agra office is scheduled to see its hours reduced to 4 hours a day.

The Gaylord office, one of several initially targeted for closure, will drop to just 2 hours a day. It's the same for Cedar, which also was targeted for closure.

A community meeting is set for 3 p.m. Nov. 7 in Woodston as well, but that meeting will be at the city office. It will be reduced to two hours as well, given it was targeted for closure.

On Wednesday, meetings are set for noon at Dorrance City Hall and at 3 p.m. in the Sylvan Grove Post Office.

Meetings already have taken place in Gove and Healy, with postal officials moving ahead with the hour reductions in spite of pleas by both communities to extend the hours.
