Priest's talk will offer building blocks

A former Hays resident who now lives in Chile will give a talk titled "Building Community, Building A People of God" Thursday night in Hays.

Father Chris Cox, a 1988 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, will return to his alma mater to share a bit about his life as a Catholic priest in Chile. His talk is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in the TMP cafeteria.

Cox -- the oldest of five children of Gerald and Linda Cox, who now live in Salina -- attended St. Joseph Elementary and Kennedy Middle schools before going to TMP.

He attended college at the University of Notre Dame and simultaneously entered the Congregation of Holy Cross at Notre Dame.

Cox was ordained a priest in 1999 and served immigrant people in Arizona and Indiana before being assigned to Chile.

At Thursday's presentation, Cox will show a video of his parish, as well as his photography, and share stories about his work at an inner city parish in Santiago, Chile.
