A woman reported being raped Wednesday night south of the Saline River bridge in rural Ellis County, according to the Ellis County Sheriff's office.

The victim reported she was driving southbound on U.S. Highway 183 at approximately 10:30 p.m. when she saw a late-1980s hunter green Ford Explorer stopped along the side of the road.

She said she observed a young American Indian child approximately 3 years old standing alone at the rear of the vehicle. When the woman stopped and made contact with the child, she said an American Indian male approached the woman, restrained her and raped her. The man was described as approximately 6 feet, 2 inches tall, 250 pounds and 35 to 40 years old, with a scorpion tattoo on the left side of his neck.

The suspect and child were last seen driving in the Ford Explorer, turning westbound on a county road.

Anyone who might have observed a vehicle or person matching this description is asked to call the Ellis County Sheriff's Department at (785) 625-1040.
