A 21-year-old Hays man remains in the Ellis County jail pending the filing of rape charges in connection with an incident last week at the victim's residence.
Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler said a 22-year-old woman went to the Law Enforcement Center on Sunday to report she had been sexually assaulted several days earlier.
Scheibler said the assault reportedly had occurred Thursday during the evening hours at her residence in the south portion of Hays.
The suspect was an acquaintance of the victim, he said, and was arrested later Sunday evening.
Scheibler identified the man as Ricardo Ivan Mendoza-Mendias, 21, Hays.
He was arrested for rape, domestic battery and criminal restraint, and remained in jail Tuesday.
Formal charges against Mendoza-Mendias were pending Tuesday.
