FHSU set to Rock the Vote
Special to The Hays Daily News
What do P.Diddy, Miley Cyrus and Fort Hays State University have in common? They all are dedicated to Rock the Vote and getting young people to the polls. And now, Rock the Vote, the nonpartisan organization famous for drumming up excitement for the voting process, will be making its way to Hays at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center in Sheridan Hall. Virtual students also will be able to check out a live stream of the event at fhsuguides.fhsu.edu/fhsulive.
American Democracy Project, Student Government Association and University Activities Board are teaming up to bring Rock the Vote to campus. For more than 20 years, Rock the Vote has been using music, celebrities and technology to encourage young voters to cast their ballots. This year, the organization launched their "#WeWill" campaign in honor of the presidential elections.
Along with Rock the Vote's presentation, ADP, SGA and UAB will have a display of the Freedom Posters and stations where Kansas residents can register to vote. Those outside of the state can register to vote or request an absentee ballot prior to the Rock the Vote event with TurboVote at fhsu.turbovote.org/register.
According to Youth Voting Stats, approximately 46 million 18- to 29-year-olds are eligible to vote in 2012, and by 2015, this generation will make up one-third of the electorate. Get out and make your voices heard and change the course of America.
