Two area schools familiar with Scholars Bowl success will return to this weekend's Class 1A State Championships after finishing in the top two of their regional meet Friday.
Rexford-Golden Plains won the 1A regional title at Tribune, where Bird City-Cheylin finished second.
They will join at least two other area teams at the eight-team state meet, scheduled for Saturday at Rosalia-Flinthills.
Ness City and Quinter earned the top two spots at the Quinter 1A regional Thursday.
Two of the eight 1A regionals set for Thursday -- at Tribune and Wilson -- were postponed because of bad weather.
Tribune's meet was rescheduled for the next day, and Wilson's is set for Monday.
Other regionals involving area schools that were postponed Thursday and will be held Monday are 4A at Kingman, 3A at Lakin and 2A at Brookville/Ell-Saline.
Golden Plains is back at state for the second time in three years, while Cheylin will be making its second straight trip to state.
Other area teams that already have qualified for the season finales in their classifications are Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in 3A and Oberlin-Decatur Community in 2A.
TMP-Marian won its own regional meet, while Decatur Community finished third at Leoti.
The 3A state meet will be at Cimarron and 2A, at Goessel. The top three teams in the 2A, 3A and 4A regionals qualify for state.
