Larry Dean Braun, 49, Hays, was sentenced to more than five years in prison Monday following an October conviction for the sale of cocaine and drug tax stamp violations.

Braun was sentenced to serve 64 months for the first two counts of the sale of cocaine. The sentences for the third count of sale of cocaine and three counts of drug tax stamp violation will be served concurrently.

"He'll have to serve through April of 2012 on his parole violation," Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees said. "Then he will start serving his sentence."

Drees said the earliest possible release date would be March of 2016.

Braun was paroled in January 2008 following convictions for the sale of marijuana in Ellis County and possession with the intent to sell marijuana in Gove County in 1999, Drees said. He also was convicted of attempted rape and felony domestic battery in 1998.

What would be ridiculous is legalizing drugs, what wouldn't be ridiculous is putting these drug users, sellers, on a chain gang, rain, snow, or shine, for about ten years, work for their bed and breakfast! You see, on the chain, their family, and friends, can drive by and wave to them when ever thy want!

rehabilitation?: 11/19/2009
It's too bad that Larry did not learn anything about staying OUT of prison while in prison the first time. One would think a person would want to rehabilitate themselves after having to do time, but so sadly, this is often not the case as can be seen in the overloaded prisons & jails, from parole & probation violators.Dept. of corrections should spend more time on getting the criminals "right" than detaining them just to pass the time. The criminals know they at least have a bed, meals, which is more than some honest hardworking citizens have!

WAY TO GO : 11/19/2009
Once again the Ellis CO Attorney proved Ellis county is the best place to commit a crime. The man mentioned above is a carrer crimminal and general burden on society. Too light of a sentence as usual.
