INMAN – Police here are investigating a report of embezzlement at a truck repair center along K-61.

Inman Police Chief Mike Akins confirmed Thursday the investigation continues into alleged embezzlement that reportedly had been occurring since 2005 at Louie’s Service Center, 782 Cherokee Road.

No arrests have been made or charges filed in the case.

The owners of Louie’s Service Center are Louie and Marliece Bate, ac-cording to the city of Inman’s Web site. Contacted by phone Thursday, the owners declined comment.

Akins said he has been investigating the case for about two weeks.

He wouldn’t comment on who’s suspected of committing the crime or how much money reportedly has been stolen.

Once the investigation is complete, Akins said, he will turn over in-formation to the McPherson County Attorney, who will decide if there is any validity to the case.

If the county attorney files a formal complaint, an arrest warrant could be issued or a simply a subpoena for the suspect to appear in court.

“An arrest warrant would be issued if the person was believed to be a flight risk,” Akins said. “If the person has been in the community for 20 or 30 years, though, there’s not much chance they’ll run.”
