Wicked spring weather hits region

Severe storms rumbled through the area Wednesday night, bringing hail, heavy rain and high winds to northwest Kansas.
A brief tornado was reported to have touched down 3 miles north-northeast of Catharine. A spotter reported two tornadoes, one that was on the ground for four to five minutes, according to the National Weather Service.
Minutes later, a rope tornado was reported 8 miles north of Gorham in Russell County. According to the NWS, the tornado formed when two funnel clouds merged and touched down. That report to the NWS came from the Russell County Emergency manager.
Hail the size of 1-inch was reported 3 miles southwest of Paradise in Russell County, and a citizen later reported golfball to baseball hail 5 miles west of Osborne.
A tornado was confirmed in Emmeram early Wednesday evening.
