Rathke, Bozarth among state meet winners

WICHITA -- Norton senior Hayli Bozarth picked up her second gold medal at the state track meet on Saturday, winning the Class 3A girls' shot put at 41 feet, 1 1/2 inches. On Friday, Bozarth won the 3A discus at 134-4, eight feet farther than her nearest competitor.
Oakley sophomore Dayna Kuhlman was second in the 100 hurdles in 15.97 seconds. On Friday, Kuhlman defended her 2A triple jump crown, going a personal best l36-10 1âÑ2.
Ellis senior Whitney Taylor finished second in the 2A girls' 100-meter dash in a time of 12.44, with WaKeeney-Trego freshman Lexi Riedel third in 12.73. Weskan senior Raney Okeson was runner-up in the 1A girls' triple jump, going 36-2 1/2. Ness City freshman Kylie Stoecklein beat Bird City-Cheylin junior Naomi Reeh in the 1A girls, 1,600. On Friday, Reeh won the gold medal in the 3,200.
Senior Drew Thomas of Thomas More Prep-Marian took fourth in the boys' 3A discus at 159-9. Thunder Ridge freshman Joel Struckhoff finished second in the 1A boys' long jump.
Hays High School junior Tyler Rathke threw 158-4 on his penultimate throw to win the Class 5A state discus title Friday. Meanwhile, Golden Plains freshman Rilee Spresser won the gold medal in the Class 1A boys' triple jump, going 41-3. Hill City senior Alex VanLoenen captured the Class 2A boys' discus crown at 147-7.
On the girls' side Friday, Smith Center sophomore Sara Timmons struggled to win the 2A javelin with a toss of 115-91âÑ2, the first time she was under 120 this spring.
