SALINA -- With inventory soaring from $250,000 to $1 million in products and the addition of six new employees, Hays will benefit from Western Extralite transforming its Salina location into a regional distribution hub supplying electrical and datacomm products to surrounding cities, including Hays.

"Doubling our staff and dramatically increasing on-demand access to a comprehensive range of the industry's most reliable products and services allows Western Extralite to deliver what our customers need when they need it," said Leith Winsor, regional vice president.

The increased inventory includes stocking a larger quantity of high-demand products, as well as the addition of new product lines.

"The advantage for our customers is that many products that previously were available the next day -- especially when a large quantity was needed -- will now be on the shelf and available immediately," Winsor said.

"Whether you are an electrical contractor, datacomm specialist, a maintenance and repair of operations manager or a plant manager, Western Extralite stocks the electrical, voice and data products you need and delivers your orders accurately, on time, every time. Our knowledgeable staff is able to offer fast, helpful answers to technical questions and guide you to the most cost effective, energy efficient products to meet your needs."

The Salina location delivers to customers within a 75-mile radius on a daily basis. It supplies central Kansas cities including Hays, Wichita, Manhattan, McPherson, Hutchinson, Newton, El Dorado, Abilene, Beloit and Concordia.

A third-generation family owned business headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., Western Extralite opened the Salina service center in 2009. The 30,000-square-foot location features a cutting edge warehousing system that ensures customers' orders are pulled quickly and accurately.

A newly hired supervisor and five additional employees operate the state-of-the art warehouse system managing $1 million of product inventory. With bar code readers to confirm accurate item selection and quantity, and conveyors to carry products to appropriate drop points quickly for packing and shipping, Western Extralite is focused on timely, accurate order fulfillment for its customers.

Side-loading forklifts efficiently transfer large quantities of products within the warehouse to prepare for daily customer deliveries throughout the area, ensuring customers have what they need when they need it.

In addition to the products stocked in its warehouse, the Salina distribution center's showroom displays hand tools, batteries and energy saving products, and solutions including LED and compact fluorescent lamps and lighting fixtures.

The distribution center is a "one-stop shop" for all electrical and datacomm needs. Just a few of the services include project quotations and management, job-site deliveries, energy audits, material storage and staging, 24-hour online ordering and emergency services, will-call, colored wire feeders and paralleling services. Western Extralite also offers government agency supply services for Kansas, the federal government, local municipalities and educational institutions.

As a full-line, full-service electrical and datacomm products distributor, Western Extralite stocks more than $10 million in inventory and 13,000 electrical and datacomm products at its 17 locations across Kansas and Missouri. Named by the National Association of Electrical Distributors as the 2012 "Greenest of the Green" of all the electrical distributors in the nation, Western Extralite renovated its Salina space to achieve a dramatic reduction in the building's energy use. The company also installed the Midwest's first passive-heat solar wall in its Manhattan service center, and its Lawrence facility was that city's first private LEED certified building.
