KINGMAN, Kan. (AP) -- The first-degree murder trial of a former Kansas lawman charged with killing his wife and setting their home on fire is heading toward its conclusion.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Monday afternoon in the trial of Brett Seacat, who is charged in the April 2011 shooting death of his 34-year-old wife, Vashti, at their Kingman home.

Seacat also is charged with aggravated arson and two counts of aggravated child endangerment for allegedly setting fire to the couple's house while their two young sons were asleep. The boys were not harmed.

Jurors have heard 12 days of testimony in the case.

Prosecutors contend Seacat killed his wife 16 days after she filed for divorce. Seacat's attorneys maintain his wife set the fire and shot herself.
