TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Kansas Democrats say one of their state House candidates is being denied a spot on the ballot because the Republican secretary of state's office lost his paperwork.
Democrats filed an objection Thursday to Secretary of State Kris Kobach's refusal to list Larry Meeker, of Lake Quivira, as a candidate. Meeker wants to run in the 17th District in the Kansas City area.
Kobach's office contends it didn't receive Meeker's filing form before Monday's deadline. Democrats said an aide to House Minority Leader Paul Davis, of Lawrence, delivered Meeker's form with papers for other candidates.
The hours before the filing deadline were unusually hectic. Last week, three federal judges redrew congressional, legislative and State Board of Education districts.
A state board that includes Kobach expects to review Meeker's case next week.
