LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- That pile of junk in your home might be more than clutter.

An exhibit opening Sept. 26 at the Art and Design Gallery at the University of Kansas takes a closer look at the stuff of everyday life.

The display of more than 20 images is titled "Domestic Debris." One image shows party goods, including balloons and tinsel. Another features a porcelain bunny, cleaning supplies and houseplants.

The university says in a news release that Kansas City artist Kati Toivanen created the pieces.

Toivanen is a professor and chair of the art and art history department at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Toivanen says that through the work, she came to "accept, and even embrace, the accumulation of debris in my domestic environment."
