TOPEKA -- Gov. Sam Brownback issued a statement today upon learning of the death of Sgt. First Class Forrest W. Robertson of Westmoreland. Robertson died Sunday of injuries sustained when his dismounted patrol received rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire in Logar Province, Afghanistan.

"On behalf of the state of Kansas, Lt. Governor Colyer and I extend our deepest sympathies to Sgt. Robertson's family and friends," Brownback said. "We offer our deepest gratitude for his service and heartfelt sympathy to his family."

The 35-year-old old Robertson was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Funeral plans for Robertson have not yet been announced. He is survived by his wife, children and mother.
