PITTSBURG, Kan. (AP) -- Pittsburg State University has been recognized as a top tier regional university by U.S. News and World Report.

The Pittsburg Morning Sun reports (http://bit.ly/S1SUaO) that the magazine has also ranked Pittsburg State as highest among the state's three regional universities in its 2013 Best Midwest Regional Universities list.

The 12-state Midwest region includes Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Bill Ivy, associate vice president for enrollment management and student success, at Pittsburg State says it's the second year in a row that the university in southeast Kansas has been named a top-tier university by U.S. News and World Report.
