WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- A Sedgwick county sheriff's deputy shot and killed a fleeing suspect in a bank robbery Wednesday at a Wichita credit union, law enforcement authorities said.

Dispatchers received the robbery call at 7:23 a.m. Wednesday. A deputy who was in the area quickly responded to the scene, where he saw a man running from the building, Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter said.

"We don't have a lot of details because we're investigating right now, but the suspect did have a weapon," Easter said.

The deputy shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the suspect and the officer have not been released.

Officers blocked off the area to traffic while law enforcement agencies investigated the shooting.

Easter declined to say whether the Credit Union of America branch was open at the time of the robbery. Its website says the branch does not offer lobby services, and its drive-thru window opens at 7:30 a.m.

The Wichita Eagle (http://bit.ly/10qSkWZ ) reports that authorities were interviewing at least six witnesses. Wichita police, the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation were investigating the officer-involved shooting. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also working with local authorities to investigate the robbery.

The names of the suspect and the officer have not been released.
