LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- Enrollment this spring at the University of Kansas fell about 2.7 percent from last year.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports (http://bit.ly/X1HrLa ) that the university's total spring enrollment fell to 26,258. Last spring, that number was nearly 27,000. Fall enrollment fell to about 28,000 this academic year, which is also a drop of 2.7 percent.

Matt Melvin, vice provost for enrollment management, says few students enroll for the first time in the spring semester. He says the spring numbers usually show a slight decrease from the fall because of December graduations and dropouts.
