Kansas ed board to review budget
Eds: APNewsNow.
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- The State Board of Education is scheduled next week to hear several updates on financing Kansas' 293 school districts.
The one-day monthly meeting agenda for Nov. 10 includes reports from the Kansas Department of Education's fiscal staff regarding issues for the 2010 session. It also includes appeals for funding education for the remainder of 2010 and the 2011 budget.
Kansas spends more than $3 billion each year on aid to public schools. But Gov. Mark Parkinson promises that he will make up a shortfall in state revenues before legislators return in January, meaning aid to public schools could be reduced.
The board also will review several studies related to consolidation of school districts and administrations.
