Eds: APNewsNow.

GIRARD, Kan. (AP) -- The Northeast school district in southeast Kansas' Crawford County is looking for a new superintendent.

Mike Philpot had led the district since July 2008. He announced his retirement in late October.

Former State Education Commissioner Andy Tompkins is helping the district with the search. Tompkins is the dean of Pittsburg State University's College of Education.

The deadline for submitting an application is Jan. 8.
